Are You Sexually Intelligent?
Everyone assumes they ‘know’ about sex, but sex is more than the act we assume we know enough about. It is a web of ideas,cultural beliefs and mores. The misinformation we gather from media and society usually comes from a model of sexuality that reflects and perpetuates patriarchal culture. If you think about it, sexually emancipated women are thought to be threatening or often despised. I don’t know any woman who wants to be known as promiscuous, yet men are applauded for it. I’ve always found these ideas bothersome.
I encourage you to join us as we examine social constructions of sexual knowledge. How does politics play into sexual freedom? What is a woman’s right to define her own sexuality? How can issues surrounding birth control and reproductive rights undermine or elevate a woman’s sexuality? Who should have the right over a woman’s body and her sexual liberation? We will discuss all of these issues and more when we discuss Sexual Intelligence and the Politics of Sex. After our discussion, we'll celebrate the freedom and ability to discuss these challenging topics. Look forward to seeing you there!
